How many of us do really care about vaastu for our own houses?

- Look up to the sun and sun will look after you. 

From my personal experience, practically speaking, there are circumstance when you actually think about vaastu in your home! When you are buying a new house, you probably think about it. But yet  again, in today's apartment/flat system, we are very limited in accommodating vaastu in it. Let me clarify, whatever I will say here, those will be entirely my personal opinions. So, please! Do not blindly follow, however, I will try to keep everything very understandable.

Vaastu means dwelling, shastra means knowledge. Vaastu shastra talks about building plan, architecture, land/plot layout etc. There are mentions of vaastu shastras in our veda(Atharveda) as well. Atharveda is the fourth veda which is on knowledge. Though these were written thousands of years ago, we are still enlightened from them. Every civilisation has peaks, vaastu were perhaps being shaped during that time when a group of human attained supreme wisdom. They were of course the bunch of most talented engineers I would say.

Interestingly, unlike today's world, everything was "the sun centric" in ancient times. People maintained their day-to-day life based on how Sun appears to them. Remember that the sun is the main source of energy in our solar system. We can live, we can breath - all because we have sun. It is the supreme power. In today's busy life, we often forget that. Look up to the sun and sun will look after you. All these flora and fauna exist because of the sun.

Vaastu is also based on the sun. A simple example, why do we need to have the kitchen in south-east corner of the house? 

The sun rises in the east and when the ray hits the kitchen(in the south-east corner), it kills lots of bacteria, the bacteria can't bear the ultra violet ray which is of very high frequency, when the ray hits the food, the latter gets vitamin D, the more warm it is, the more is the power!

Is it not scientific? Of course yes. Depending on the sun's position with respect to the earth, lots of events happen on earth, in your house as well. The amount of energy your house receives based on the sun's position is different at every moment. Realising that fact, we should probably think of making the house a bit more sun friendly?

South East

Vaastu shastra says to keep kitchen, gym, inverter etc in the south east direction of the house. Now you know why. Its the first ray of sunlight! Energy.

North, north-east, east

Drinking water storage, prayer room, study room - why? Sunlight.

West

Toilet, septic tank, lift etc - why? The evening sunlight kills the bacteria in toilets, septic tanks etc where the wastage gets accumulated throughout the day.

North west

Food storage, old aged people's bedroom

South, south-west, west

Bedroom

Centre

Ideally no roofing should be there. Various activities like playing, marriage ceremony can be performed.

Additional information 

Positive energy or vibe is very important in life. To achieve that, we may have to adjust few things in life. We spend quite a bit of time in our houses, so definitely, we should give attention in keeping our house in a pleasing way.

1. Put a swastika on the main door in the outer side. Though it is said that silver one is better, any metal will do.
2. Keep your finance in the north side.
3. Keep plants in the east.
