Dovetail joint - DIY woodworking India

I have read several posts on this topic. What I have found is - it is used extensively in making boxes, drawers etc. When it comes to joining, Japanese carpenters are pro. They have a reputation of using zero nail in their woodworking. Respect. They do all kinds of joining and locking. Apart from the joints you should see their smooth work! Some time back I saw in a video - where they were planing a wood surface and the residue emerged just like a feather.

Dovetail joints come handy when it comes to perpendicularly joining 2 wood pieces. There are different flavours of dovetail joints too. They are called through, half blind, secret mitred, sliding dovetail etc. You can refer to the wiki link for more details on these.

Lets discuss more about dovetail joint by putting a couple of pictures. You can also refer wikipedia link about dovetail.

This is understandable that this joint holds the cabinet very strongly and it provides stability.
